In the bright light of the moon, sat a young girl at the toes of an old friend of hers. "Oh Grandmother Willow," the girl started looking up at the weaving branches far above her head,"Where shall I run? What place in this world will protect me or my loved ones during this war?" Her eyes then turned toward her worriless friends grazing peacefully in the moon's light. "Oh Grandmother what treacherous events will this evil bring with it? Scoundrels of the moonlight? Devilish lords of blood? And what will it all amount to?" The girl held her knees to her chest tightly as she glared at the soft earth under her. "Nothing." Her words cut sharply through the still air of the night. After a moment of utter silence the young girl unfolded and pressed her tear strewn face against the rough bark of the tree as her eyes became pools of clear blue water." Grandmother Willow......what can I do.....to bring peace to this hideous planet?"
As she listened in her heart for a response the wind began to stir and her companions began to stamp there hooves and whinnie nervously. Their eyes became wide with fright, and their hair stood on edge. The girl peered at them worriedly and whispered to them, "What's wro-."Venus then saw the enormous billowing clouds of smoke coming from the old barn at the end of the pasture."Oh no..."
The once calm band of horses now bolted in the opposite direction in pure horror as Venus took off at an amazing speed for the writhing barn. As she moved in she could hear the high pitched screams of the frightened villagers, feel the heat bulid to an alarming temperature, taste the flying ash on her dry lips, smell thedisgusting stench of burning wood at full force, but she didn't stop for she also could hear the sound of painful whinnies from inside the death cage. "Venus NOOO!!!!," someone shouted from a ways behind her, but it was too late for Venus had already dissappeared into the crumbling barn.
Inside the writhing barn was simular to hell itself. Flames sprouted up rapidly where ever one turned destroying everything at its barest touch. Ash and smoke drove away the air suffocating everything trapped. Sweat rolled down her cheeks as she rushed for the stall doors, flinging them open one by one and each one of the horses bolted for the door desperately trying to escape the biting flames. Venus could feel the fire biting her delicate skin, and the smoke choking her lungs. Venus turned to run, but then noticed s small cry for help coming from one of the open stalls. Vneus ran to it avoiding pieces of burning ceiling that came crashing down to the earth. She grabbed the door and glanced inside to see a weak baby foal standing still as a statue unwilling to move. Venus looked worried as she edged up to him pulling on him desperately trying to move the foal, but he wouldn't budge. Her back began hurt unbearably bringing her strength down drastically, along with her hope. And then her eyes lit up. She hurriedly ripped a piece of her ash covered dress off and tied it around the foal's eyes blinding it. She then kneeled down stroking it slowly. "It's ok. I've got ya." She then stood up with renewed confidence and began to lead the foal out of the stall. And he moved.
Venus carefully lead the foal through the hazardous flames and weaved around fallen debri as the barn started to moan as it slanted, just about ready to topple. Then the ceiling fell through as the walls caved in to create one humongous fire for the world to see. The villagers gathered around were rushing sround, trying to gather as much water as possible while others calmed down the stray horses who were freed from a horrible death and attepted to heal their painful burns.
"Look pa, it's spirit!" a little girl shouted happily as the young foal galloped out of the barn blindly. The little girl ran after it, her beloved father not far behind. The girl grabbed the foal and flung her arms around it in pure joy, tears rolling down her eyes." Oh...thank god the older man whispered to himself as he gazed upon his daughter and the nervous colt. "Now now Joy give Spirit some space," the father told her. With a smile on his face he kneeled down to try and sooth the foal. Joy stepped aside as her father had said, but out of the corner of her eye saw something glowing in the distance. As she turned to look, her eyes met with those of light blue in color and warmth surrounding her gaze. Not far off from the dying flames stood a luminous black horse standing. As Joy looked on the horse gave her a small whinnie and silently galloped off toward the enchanted woods.
"Joy, what are you staring at, you should be in bed baby girl." Her father gave her a stern look, but Joy knew it was fake. "Ok dad...let's go," she mumbled as she wiped awy the horrid night's effects off her face. Then she and her father, along with the colt started back together, but Joy couldn't help but take one last glance toward the forest, and as she did she almost sworn that she could make out the shape of a horse at the forest"s edge.
